Lands’ End Outerwear Expert Reveals The Top Five Tips for Choosing The Perfect Winter Coat

Written on November 8th, 2011 by Neene Baker14 shouts

Dodgeville, Wis. (PRWEB) December 8, 2009

Winter coats are an important investment for millions of Americans who brave blustery winds and icy temperatures. To save the time, cost and hassle of making a poor decision, be sure to know what to look for to get the best coat that fits your needs. Lands' End outerwear expert Scott Whittingham reveals his top five tips for choosing high-quality outerwear:

1. Look for temperature ratings – Consider your climate and how you will use the coat. Outerwear that is rated to perform well in certain temperature ranges will help you determine which coat best fits your needs. A coat that is temperature rated from -10 to 15 F can be worn to and from work while still being warm enough for shoveling snow.

2. Look for performance features – With all the options available, it is important to choose a coat that integrates fabric technology to enhance its performance. Features to look for include laminates that make a coat's shell waterproof and breathable, water-repellent finishes that let moisture bead up and roll off and barriers on inner shells that block icy wind. For fleece, Nano-Tex Resists Static is a permanent nanotechnology that helps resist static shock, static cling and particles like lint, pet hair and dust.

3. Minimize bulkiness – Choose coats with insulation that is lightweight while still offering exceptional warmth. Down, when quilted, offers exceptional warmth without extra bulk. Fleece is excellent for sealing out wind and keeping warmth in. Synthetic insulations are also a good choice as many mimic the warmth of down while offering added benefits such as being hypoallergenic or nonabsorbent to provide warmth during the wettest weather. The Lands' End 3-in-1 SnowSystem Jacket features their exclusive PolarThin insulation.

4. Consider the details – Some details such as hoods are easily visible, but many important extras are not. Look for concealed cuffs, adjustable drawcord hems and combination zip-and-snap fronts with inner storm shields to help to seal out chilly drafts. For longer-length coats, a two-way zipper adds ease of mobility, while armpit zips prevent overheating in coats designed specifically for winter sports.

5. Add warmth with accessories – As with coats, consider the climate and how you will use the accessories. For winter sports, look for durable nylon shells, reinforced palms and fingertips, as well as fleece with stretch for ease of movement. Fabrics like cable-knit cotton, wool or cashmere offer an ideal combination of style and warmth for every day or special occasions.

Intelligencer Printing Company celebrates the spirit of the season with the 5th Annual Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive, sponsored by the Burlington Coat Factory and One Warm Coat. For the month of November, every print order placed with Intelligencer means a brand new children’s winter coat will be donated to the drive. Donated coats will be distributed by One Warm Coat, a non-profit organization, to local charities, which will then give the coats to local children in need.

The Good Morning America Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive started in 2006. Brand new or gently used children’s coat donations are accepted at Burlington Coat Factory, or outside Good Morning America’s Time’s Square headquarters.

Intelligencer Printing Company has been in business and delivering state of the art prints for over 200 years. For its entire two-century long history, Intelligencer Printing has made innovations in printing technology and has been continually dedicated to customer service. In 1794, Lancaster Journal proprietors William Hamilton and Henry Wilcocks took on small print jobs, mostly public notices and the like, in between issues of the Journal to keep the presses rolling. Two hundred years later, in 1996, the NAPL granted Intelligencer Printing the Excellence in Management Hall of Fame award, recognizing the company as the best printer in North America. In 2011, the company was once again honored by NAPL with a Platinum Customer Plus ™ award, a top honor for customer satisfaction. An Article About Gloves And Its Different Uses Throughout History

Written on October 22nd, 2011 by Lorenzo Mitchell6 shouts

Since the earlier times, gloves have been used by people in their daily lives. Today, these hand coverings with separate sections for each fingers and the thumb that extends part way up the arm as defined by the Merriam-Webster are now available in various types and designs such as leather gloves and mittens which depends on their purpose of use.

Gloves as abovementioned were used since prehistoric times. These were used by cavemen to protect their hands from acquiring wounds and hand injuries when they are doing rough and uncomfortable tasks. Early forms of gloves were designed like crude mittens which have fingers and a gauntlet that covers the forearm. During the 12th century, these hand coverings were called “glove” which comes from the English word “glof”. They do really have rich history, however, the inventor of this item was never known.

Other than being used by cavemen, gloves were also used by royalties and dignitaries especially in England. Leather gloves, pieces of jewelry, and embroidered fabric were worn by people after the Norman Conquest as a distinction of social status. Other than this, they were also used once by English people to challenge personal battle. Over the centuries, gloves became widely popular primarily by people with high social status. Upper-classmen during the 14th century where often seen using them, and during the 16th century, Catherine de Medicis who is the queen consort of Henry II of France recognized these as fashion items. Nowadays, depending on purpose of use, gloves come in different styles as well as type.

There are generally six categories of gloves namely: winter, industrial, sports, stylish, white, and general. As the name suggests, winter gloves are those used to protect the wearer from the cold winters. As was aforementioned, the early forms of gloves were crude mittens used by cavemen as protection from the cold weather conditions of the North. Industrial gloves, on the other hand, are those used for protection in industrial sites. Styles included in this category are heat resistant, demolition style, cryogenic, metal guard, and utility styles. Alternatively, sports gloves, as the name suggests, are the ones used in sports activities. Among the number of sports events that use them are baseball, cycling, fencing, and hockey.

Other than those abovementioned another category of gloves which are used as fashion items are the stylish gloves. These are very famous among celebrities like Michael Jackson, who was known for his signature Swarovski studded glove. Another fan of these stylish gloves is Queen Elizabeth I who even had a display of her collection in the Ashmoleum Museum. Also included under this category are the those used on Operas during Napoleonic/Regency Era. The white gloves, on the other hand, are often seen used by staffs in restaurants as well as hotels to show class and unity. The last category is the general hand covering that is used for various purposes like household chores.

History saw man’s obsession with a covered hand though very few remain today. Nonetheless, leather gloves and other styles are still important pieces of clothing that are used today for a variety of purposes.

Lorenzo Mitchell is a glove collector from London, England. Mitchell’s collection range from 12th Century leather gloves (Lederhandschuhe in German) to Michael Jackson’s signature Swarovski studded gloves.

What Exactly Is a Pea Coat

Written on September 17th, 2011 by Emma Wilburyno shouts

It appears as if were yesterday when I so my Dad in the tried-and-true pea coat. It really meant quite a bit to him because that was the coat that he wore whenever you probably serve in the U.S. Navy back and also the 1960′s. He explained that he had never worn a coat that kept him warmer, or one which had stood the test of time.

The pea coat is standard issue for the brave women and men of the U.S. Navy. These coats happen to be commonplace for the Navy uniforms since the beginning of the Last century. Navy men designed the coats to endure harsh, cold temperatures that many from the men faced across the ocean. Now many civilians can be seen wearing the coats, which really comes as no surprise to me.

Pea coats will always be deep blue in color and double-breasted in style. They’re made from worsted wool. Worsted wool gets its name because of the way the wool is processed for the coats. It is very durable because the fibers within the material are parallel in alignment. You will find few garments that are made better and performed to higher standards compared to pea coat.

Another appealing component of the pea coat is its classic style. They really are immediately identifiable for their distinct look. As well as the traditional deep blue color and double-breasted construction, the coats are often spotted by their wide, rounded lapels and their buttons. The buttons fittingly have anchors etched into the buttons.

The name ‘pea coat’ has been said to possess different origins. One particular theory is they are called pea because of the pea soup like fog that lots of sailors encounter. Others suggest that the name is derived from ‘pilot’ because the coats were originally produced from pilot cloth. Pilot cloth is really a heavy twilled cloth that’s usually blue in color. Pilot cloth has been utilized to construct jackets since 1723. The cloth itself was nicknamed ‘p-cloth’ and the term ‘pea coat’ eventually made its evolution from that derivative. Yet others think that it is actually from the Dutch word meaning short.

Oh whatever it might be, it doesn’t really matter how it got its name. The fact from the matter would be that the pea coat immediately gives mind a picture from the traditional, double-breasted, durable, navy blue coat. Through the air may be the pea coat has evolved to become a rather fashionable piece of civilian wear too.

The civilian pea coat is not always Navy surplus. They might lack the caliber of the wool original, but there is no denying the quality and sturdiness from the original pea coat, standard publication of the U.S. Navy. It’s stood the exam of time and has served with honor.

Emma Wilbury has been writing articles on the fashion industry for several years. Take a look at her latest website about buying pea coats for women which helps people find the best pea coats for women reviews and information, when you want to look fantastic outdoors.

Hot Furry Style To Keep You Cool

Written on May 25th, 2011 by Erina Simpsonno shouts

This coming winter is said to be a very cold one. So if you’re not an avid fan of snow and the cold season in general, it’s time that you get a little bit furry with your fashion statement. The fur fashion comes with various designs of animal prints, whether it be for jackets, waistcoats, or footwear, and the only advice to be given to women out there is to go all out!

Fur jackets are supposed to be worn big and bold, but an important thing to consider first is your body type. For a petite frame, look for a jacket with smaller prints that would go with your small figure. On the other hand, women with large body frames should go for larger print. However, avoid going too far and cover your entire body.

The furry jacket may be quite a bold choice so if you want to play it a little bit safer look for a daring substitute. There are actually a number of ways that you can incorporate fur into your wardrobe and one of which is with the use of a fur waistcoat. There’s no need for you to cover your whole body with fur just to remain in style so wearing something with a fur accent would be enough.

A pair of statement boots is an excellent way to complete your wardrobe this winter. Ask yourself whether you’re going for a pair of flat or a pair of heeled or wedged boots. You’ll have no problem looking for the right pair for you since you’ll probably find a lot sold in major retailer shops.

While the ever popular UGG boots are preferred by most women, they are not as durable as suede boots. Boots made from kid’s leather are definitely more long lasting. If you have short legs, go for wedged footwear that makes your legs appear longer. Wedged boots are also comfortable to wear than high-heeled ones.

The fur fashion style is designed for those with bold personalities. If you feel you’re not courageous enough to wear such a sophisticated look, be true to yourself and stick to where you are most comfortable. Besides, the winter fashion comes with other styles not just with animal fur.

Found this short article interesting? You might possibly like to look at other reviews by the same individual all about the modest wedding dress as well as formal wedding dresses.
